Frequently Asked Questions
What camera do you use?
In the archives most of the pictures are taken by my old Nikon E4600. In November 2011 it was replaced by a Canon PowerShot A2200 :)
Have you stopped wearing lolita?
Yes. I'm currently selling my clothes because I am incredibly tired of my wardrobe, the big petticoat, the heavy bulky layers and the attention I get from strangers.
Why did you quit lolita?
There are lots of reasons. I guess they're all connected. But the biggest reason might be that my self esteem all of a sudden took a huge dive. I no longer feel proud, pretty or safe in lolita, so I figured it was time to let it go. Other reasons that had an impact on me was that my economy changed. I could no longer afford anything. I also felt a need of being lighter and more practical and I was sick to death of the heavy bulky layers of lolita. My mind seems to have grown older. I'm no longer so interested in cute and frilly things. And also I started to feel a rage inside my heart against the world's obsession with beauty. I really really needed a break from it.
Where do you buy your wigs?
I made a guide here :)
Isn't wearing wigs all the time bad for your real hair?
Well, wearing a wig is like wearing a hat, so I don't really see why that would be a problem? My hair is just fine. I have no problem with hair loss, dry skin, scratchy scalp, oily hair or any of those statements people are claiming. My hair is just the way it's always been. Quite the contrary, my hair doesn't have to deal with wind, sunshine, hair spray, dye and other chemicals. A wig is not a bathing cap, my head can still breath when I wear a wig, and I don't sleep with my wigs on which gives my head at least 10 hours of rest every day.
"I think a smaller bow would look better" (and other opinions about my outfit)
Your opinion doesn't interest me. I don't dress to please you I dress to please myself, and if I wear a big bow then I wear it because that's how I like it. If you prefer smaller bow then you wear it that way. Don't push your own personal opinions about how you like things on other people. It's actually very rude to do so and it doesn't help or encourage anyone. Personal opinions and constructive critique is not the same thing. Cc is only given when people personally ask you for it. And I rarely ask for such things, because I mostly know how I want things.

Where do you buy your wigs?
ReplyDeleteAll my wigs are bought at Ebay :) I try different sellers all the time :)
ReplyDeleteHow much do your outfit cost on average? I love them ^^, but don't think I can afford to buy as many as you. And under the skirts do you wear a hoop skirt or caroline?
ReplyDeleteIt's impossible to say now that I've brought some brand in my closet. Each outfit vary a lot in cost since the cost between a brand and offbrand is very very big. It's also difficult to count what an outfit is worth, since the money i'm spending is so far much more then the actual price on the items, due to shipping and custom fees.
ReplyDeleteI do not wear any hoop skirt or crinoline. I only wear a petticoat.
How long did it take to accumulate a whole closet full of lolita clothing? I know I wouldn't be able to just buy a whole bunch at one time.. also, for some advice, I like lolita clothing but I find that in pictures I just look short/stumpy. Should I raise the skirt a few inches?
ReplyDeleteA full closet.. I don't know. a year maybe? yet it's never full enough ;) I have heard that raising the skirts a few inches will make your legs look longer, but i don't really know that. I never had that problem. Whenever i feel short i use higher heels or just place the camera lower ^^ But trying is the best way to find out i guess :)
ReplyDeleteyou only wear a petticoat? which petticoat do you use? do you have more than one?
ReplyDeleteI mostly wear only one petticoat. I bought it vintage from Ebay.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any recommendations on where to buy cosplay outfits from?
ReplyDeleteLittle Fury Bugs: No, I'm sorry, I don't do cosplay myself, and my friends who are all make their own outfits, so I don't know :(
ReplyDeleteHi Zeruda,
ReplyDeleteI really love your outfits. I have a few myself, but I'm not as brave as you to wear them all the time. When I do, I feel more like myself but, as you said, people are mean and don't appreciate diversity or the beauty of a lolita. I've noticed that you're unemployed at the moment so I was wondering what your dream/life goal is? It was a long time until I realised what I wanted to do. You must have a very nice and supporting family, bf and friends!
Hi Sandra!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you love my outfits :) I don't think I have a specific dream/life goal. I think that's why I always end up in new exciting places :) I simply don't have a plan ^^' I always walk where the wind carry me, so I've had several jobs and I have lived in many places. I like to try new things and see new places :)
People keep telling me that one day I'll know what I want to do, but I don't think I ever will. I think will always want to be this free and seek new knowledge this way. My friends and family respect me very much and they are very happy for me :)
Dear Zeruda,
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering - I see you wearing multiple skirts quite a lot. Doesn't your waist hurt from layering the waistbands like that, or do you perhaps have some kind of a secret? And doesn't it get too warm?
I really love layers, but they absolutely destroy my lower back. :(
Hi Negiramen!
ReplyDeleteWearing layers sure can be heavy, warm and painful, I totally agree! Three layers is particularly hard and I don't wear it very often. But two layers is mostly no problem for me :) This way of wearing layers is best for autumn, winter and spring where I live and def no good for summer cus it gets way too hot!
I actually don't have any secret tip, so the best advice i can give is to avoid skirts that are too tight around the waist. A good soft elastic in your waist won't hurt you even if you use them on top of each other. Another small thing you can try is to try not to put the waistlines exactly on top of each other. I have a few skirts that are a bit bigger than the others in the waist so they naturally end up a little below the waistline of the other skirts when wearing them together. Perhaps it divide the pressure a bit, I don't know ^^' but you can try to see if it makes any difference for you :)
When you say you get pain in your lower back, is it because the elastic is too tight or is it because all the fabric is too heavy for you to carry?
I admire your freedom. I grew up in a different family and even though now I'm on my own, I still aimed high.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me feel good when I read your blog and look at your pictures, kinda like a safe haven, because your life is a bit like an anime, and I mean that in the best way, since that's where I'd like to live to - provided that I'd be cute and not wear the same outfit all the time...and be the main character.
I'm sure you have plenty of nice ideas for dresses and outfits. You said somewhere that you don't like sewing something from beginning to end, but maybe someone else could do it for you. I find that what a lot of these sites that sell lolita (and related) clothes lack is fabric quality. There are people who would pay a great deal more just for that little extra oomph.
OH! Also, you have this red skirt that you sometimes wear underneath your dresses. I am mad about it and I looked for it and I can't find it on the site you mentioned (but ofc I found lots of other great stuff). I'd very much appreciate it if you could tell me if it's still available and maybe tell me what it's called. I've saved a spot in my wardrobe for it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Sandra!
ReplyDeleteEveryone should act like the main character in their own story :) Everyone should live their life like they dream of, create their own adventures and write their own story board :) Listen too the best music ever invented, watch the best movies ever made wear the best fashion ever created and so on :)

Hi. What program do you use to create your collages? Picnik on premium?
ReplyDeleteanastasiastarz: photoshop :)
ReplyDeleteI think you have a special talent and I wonder if you can make money from your design sense. I am wondering if you ever considered studying fashion design or historical costume making. Your talents should not go unrewarded!
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you are comfortable answering, what is your current job?
Anon: Hi! Thank you! No, I have never thought of studying fashion design or anything similar. Making outfits is just an hobby and as I my readers have experienced hobbies can change and fade :/ I'm currently unemployed, but my last job was as a seller in a big warehouse at the paint department :) I have a thing for design in general, whether it's clothes, interior or gardening. We'll see where the future leads me :)
ReplyDeleteHi I found your blog by accident and I am amazed that we have such similar taste! I am aslo a lolita fan however with age getting older, rarely wear fullset in public and turned into a more classic and nature way of lolita. I am now living in France to continue my study but I originally come from China. I love diy stuffs as well, such as making dresses for my bjd(do you know that? it's boll jointed doll). I enjoy taking beautiful photos and collect cute things as well. I thought with soo many aspects in common, we could be good friends~
ReplyDeleteBy the way, my friends call me Annie.
Hi Annie! Thanks for your comment! It's always nice to find similar minds on this planet :) I am familiar with BJDs, but I don't have one myself. But I'd love to own a doll one day! :) Do you have a blog or a Flickr where your share your interests/photos/diy or so? :)
